Teacher
Certification Requirements for Trade and Industry
Pre-Employment Laboratory
The following
information about certification requirements for Trade and Industrial
Education teachers is found on page X-4 of the Teacher Certification Handbook:
Option 1
(a) Bachelor's degree
from an accredited institution.
(b) Completion of requirements in the United States and Texas Constitutions.
(c) Three years of full-time wage earning experience in one or more approved
occupations for which instruction is offered. The experience must be approved
by the employing superintendent or certification officer of a college
or university approved to prepare teachers for the vocational certificate.
(d) Two years of successful experience teaching pre-employment laboratory
programs on emergency permits.
(e) Completion of a professional development sequence consisting of:
(1) developing, organizing,
and using instructional materials;
(2) methods of teaching vocational subjects;
(3) human relations for vocational industrial instructors;
(4) aims and objectives of vocational education;
(5) organizing and managing instructional environment; and
(6) analysis and coursemaking.
(f) Successful performance
on the TECAT
Option II
(a) High school diploma
or the equivalent
(b) Completion of
requirements in the United States and Texas Constitutions
(c) Five years of
full-time wage earning experience in one or more approved occupations
for which instruction is offered, three of which must be in predominante
subject area. The experience must be approved by the employing superintendent
or certification officer of a college or university approved to prepare
teachers for the vocational certificate
(d) Two years of
successful experience teaching pre-employment laboratory programs on emergency
permits.
(e) Completion of
the professional development sequence required for Option 1
(f) Successful performance
on the TECAT
NOTE: The minimum
approval criteria for cosmetology teachers is as follows:
- high school diploma
or the equivalent
- three years of
full-time wage-earning experience as a licensed cosmetologist; and
- current cosmetology
instructor's license issued by the Texas Cosmetology Commission
