The No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program
The No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon Schools Program is a national recognition program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The program encourages states to nominate public elementary or secondary schools that are either academically superior or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Program was established by the Education Department in 1982 and was redesigned in 2002 under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act to reflect the program’s high standards and accountability. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes schools that are meeting the NCLB’s mission to “ensure every child learns, and no child is left behind.” The program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are models of academic success.

The $25,000 Milken Educator Awards are announced each year at exciting surprise notifications held in all-school assemblies, attended by thousands of students all across the country. The Foundation presents the financial awards to new honorees during a gala celebration held at the annual Milken Family Foundation National Education Conference. Texas Teacher of the Year Program
Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. Conducted by TEA, the Texas Teacher of the Year Program annually recognizes and rewards teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.
Forty teachers – two from each Regional Education Service Center – are eligible for two titles, Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year. The Texas Teachers of the Year become spokespersons for public education and are honored at a special ceremony in Austin. The Texas Teacher of the Year, a dedicated and highly skilled candidate who is capable of inspiring students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn, becomes a candidate for National Teacher of the Year honors. The Texas Teacher of the Year is honored at a reception at the White House.
