The purpose of the 21st CCLC program is to provide extended learning opportunities outside of the regular school day to students in need of academic assistance, particularly students who attend high-need, high-poverty and low-performing schools, by developing highly effective and rigorous programs. The overall program is inclusive of specific core elements based on recommended principles and effective strategies to ensure successful programs that will assist students in meeting academic standards in core subjects (math, reading, science, social studies) in order to graduate from high school, prepared for college and/or the workforce. The Texas 21st CCLC program will strive to improve academics, attendance, behavior, promotion, and graduation rates, which aligns with the overarching goal of TEA that all students will graduate prepared for postsecondary education and/or the workforce.
