The Texas boys, Jack and John, were in the frequent habit of cutting classes at Twin Peaks Junior High School and had been absent without excuse for 5 days or parts of days during the last four weeks. The boys are 14 and 16 years old respectively. The required warning notices had been sent to the boys’ parents. After meeting with the parents about the problem of the boys sneaking out the back door and leaving school, the Twin Peaks ISD attendance officer filed truancy charges against Jack and John. On March 4, 2009, the boys appeared in the local Justice of the Peace court and were found to be guilty. The judge assessed no fine because of the boys’ ages. Being minors they cannot be required to pay a fine and because the boys are responsible for their truancy in this case, the parents cannot be forced to pay a fine either. The judge sentenced the boys to community service time. The information on Jack and John would be reported as follows.
