Classroom Examples of Integrated Instruction

This section features seven examples, filmed in Texas Pre-Kindergarten classrooms. Click on one of the titles on the left side of the screen to explore an example of multiple guidelines from different domains being taught in an integrated way.

In each lesson, teachers are addressing multiple outcomes within and across domain areas, using a variety of teaching strategies to help children learn most effectively. For example, as children play in the hardware store, they expand their vocabulary, learn to recognize words, and participate in their classroom community. Even in a targeted math activity such as counting pumpkins, children are engaged in learning across domains. Almost all interactions between teachers and children promote multiple skills at the same time.
