OSEP Continuous Improvement Monitoring Process
Validation Planning

The Texas Education Agency and the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) invite you to a public meeting to provide information about special education services for children and youth with disabilities. This public meeting is a part of the OSEP’s monitoring of Texas’ performance in implementing the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B (which applies to children ages 3 to 21).

Please Note: The purpose of public meetings and written comments is to gather broad input regarding services across the State for children with disabilities. Your input will be used to help determine how Texas is performing in the provision of special education at a statewide level. If you have specific concerns, comments, or complaints regarding services you have received, please contact your local school district Director of Special Education. The Office of Special Education Programs and the Texas Education Agency will not be responding to individual comment forms.

Schedule of Public Meetings
Meetings will be conducted in a structured format, with each meeting lasting approximately 3½ hours (a tentative agenda has been developed). Following a general information session, we will break into small groups to encourage all to participate and provide information about services in your area. Discussion will center around a list of six questions.

Online Registration (RSVP) Form (Link Disconnected)
Your response confirming your attendance will be very helpful to us. Receiving this information in advance will allow us to make arrangements for the meeting space, facilitation and organization needed to allow sufficient opportunity for all to participate. RSVPs are requested by at least ONE WEEK prior to the meeting date.

Special Accommodations
Any individual who will need accommodations for a disability in order to participate in the meeting (e.g. interpreting services, assistive listening devices, materials in alternate format) should indicate this need when submitting your RSVP (requests for special accommodations are required at least 1 week prior to the meeting date). We will attempt to meet requests received after this date, but cannot guarantee availability of the requested accommodation. The meeting sites are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Online Public Comment Form (Link Disconnected)
Your comments should be explicit and self-explanatory so that they may “stand alone” for review. In responding to questions, you may wish to address both strengths and improvement areas for Texas’ performance. The information you provide will be reviewed and used along with input gathered through public meetings. All input (whether received through public comment forms or public meetings) will be considered equally.

The TEA and OSEP respectfully request your assistance in disseminating the following invitation and enclosures to all relevant stakeholders within your organization:
