Reading Initiative for Special Education
The Division of Special Education at the Texas Education Agency in conjunction with the Office of Statewide Initiatives is involved with the Texas Reading Initiative. Through the Office of Statewide Initiatives, special education funds have been sent to the Texas Center for Reading and Language Arts in order to establish special education activities and materials to support maximum reading achievement for special education students.
The Reading Initiative for Special Education (RISE) is comprised of special education administrators from school districts and Education Service Centers, representitives from professional organizations, reading specialists, professors, and parents from the State of Texas. RISE is charged with identifying, monitoring, and acting upon issues related to the Special Education Reading Project (SERP).
