TO THE INDIVIDUAL ADDRESSED: Re: State Board of Education Heroes for Children Award The State Board of Education is now accepting applications for its Year 2000 Heroes for Children Award. The award recognizes volunteers who have been strong advocates for Texas schoolchildren.Nominations of individuals for the award are accepted from both individuals and organizations. Educational employees, elected officials and groups or organizations are ineligible to receive the award.An application for the award is enclosed. Please duplicate the application as necessary and distribute it to appropriate individuals in your school district or organization. The application form is also available on the Texas Education Agency Web site at www.tea.state.tx.us/awards.From the applications submitted, the State Board of Education will select 30 Heroes for Children Award honorees, two from each Board district for recognition in 2000. The first group of 15 recipients will be honored at the Board's May meeting and the second group of 15 recipients will be honored at a Board meeting in the Fall.Completed applications should be sent to the Texas Education Agency’s Communications Office, 1701 North Congress Avenue, Room 2-180, Austin, TX 78701-1494. Applications also may be sent by fax to the Communications Office at (512) 463-5947 or emailed to dculbert@tea.tetn.net.
