RE: Summer Food Service Program Outreach Flyers

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (the Act), Public Law 111-296, included requirements for conducting outreach to households on the availability of Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) meals. The SFSP, administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), provides free meals to kids 18 years and younger during the summer months. The programs are a part of the solution in addressing hunger and food insecurity throughout Texas as meals are served at summer meal sites. To help create awareness with our students and parents and to meet the federal requirements, TDA is providing schools across the state with an easy to use handout to inform parents of how to find a summer meal site during the months of June, July and August in Texas.

Schools can use the "3up Flyer" attached in this email. Print the black and white attachment out as one page on the front and back. There are three per page to maximize space. Schools can cut them out and place in report card envelopes, folders or handout to students and parents. There is also a color version of this "3up Flyer" available to download and print from our website, www.SummerFood.org.

For more free downloads, resources and tools to promote the Summer Nutrition Programs in your area, go to www.SummerFood.org. Please note that in May, SummerFood.org will have an interactive, searchable map where anyone can find the closest sites near them by simply entering in a zip code. In addition, parents and kids can call 2-1-1 beginning in June to find a summer meal site.

We thank you for helping to get the word out about the Summer Nutrition Programs. Together, we can help feed more children this summer in Texas. If you have further questions you may visit the website or contact us at 877-TEX-MEAL.
