To the Administrator Addressed: Enclosed is information regarding the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship Program. The goal of this unique state-based recognition program is to build the capacity of local schools by supporting teachers in their efforts to improve classroom instruction. A total of $50,000 will be awarded to a Texas teacher in the 2000-01 school year. Any full-time public or private school teacher with eight or more years of classroom experience is eligible to apply. Fellowships are to focus on the implementation of education reform that is linked to the priority areas of the state's systemic education plan. The fellowship is open to teachers of all grade levels and subject areas as long as the state's systemic education priority areas are addressed. Teachers in enrichment areas are encouraged to participate and find ways in which the priority areas can be addressed within the context of their curriculum requirements. The priority areas of the state's systemic education plan are: · Ensure that all students demonstrate exemplary performance in reading and writing.
