INFORMATION ON THE TEXAS AP STUDENT TEST FEE REDUCTIONS

1. The Texas Education Agency has agreed to pay the College Board $30 for each AP examination for all eligible students. An eligible student is one who has taken a PEIMS designated AP course in the subject of the test. If a student has not taken such a course, he or she must have the permission of the high school principal. The AP coordinator should keep copies on file of the principal's authorization for the students who have not taken AP courses.

These students will pay no more than $46 for an AP examination ($69 test fee + $7 school administration fee - $30 Texas AP fee reduction = $46). School districts have no legal authority to charge more than the College Board authorized fees and should not do so.

The number of examinations to be taken by students without financial need (see 2. below) will be put in the "Quantity" column of line W2 of the remittance section of the "2000 Advanced Placement Program Shipping and Remittance Form." This should be the same number as the one entered on Line L of the form. That amount will then be multiplied by $30 and the total put in the "Dollars" column of the line W2.

2. Information on students with financial need is put on line W1 of the same "2000 AP Shipping and Remittance Form." However in the case of students who meet the requirements for the College Board Fee subsidy, the agency will pay $42 of the cost on the examination. In order to obtain the $22 College Board fee subsidy schools agree to waive the $7 examination administration charge.

Therefore, students with financial need pay no more than $5 for an AP examination ($69 - $22 College Board fee subsidy = $47 - $42 Texas AP Fee Reduction = $5). The number of examinations requested for these students will be entered in the column "Quantity" on line W1. That number is then multiplied by $42 and that amount is entered in the column "Dollars" on line W1.

It should be noted that the original copy of the "AP Fee Reduction Request Form for Texas Schools - May 2000" should be submitted with the names of fee reduction candidates when you return the 2000 AP Examination and Special Services Order Form (ESSOF). If a student is not listed on this form as a fee reduction candidate, the school cannot claim them on the "2000 AP Shipping and Remittance Form." In such an event, the school will have to pay the cost fees that would have been subsidized by the College Board and the agency.
