TO THE ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESSED:

SUBJECT: 2000-2001 Leaver Reason Codes

During the 1999 legislative session, several bills were passed (HB 907, SB 103, SB 1472, and SB 1784) that require revisions to the codes used to report student leaver data (PEIMS 203 record). Specifically, the leaver reason codes must be revised to accommodate this legislative action. These changes will not affect reporting in 1999-2000.

The revised codes will need to be used to record information about 7th-12th grade students leaving the districts during this school year. These data will be reported in the 2000-2001 PEIMS Submission 1. Therefore, in order to record the most appropriate codes for students who leave the district during this school year, please be advised of the changes shown below. Also, please note that the revised codes are not part of the 1999-2000 PEIMS Data Standards, but will be reflected in the 2000-2001 PEIMS Data Standards.

Attached you will find the complete set of codes to be used in recording reasons for students who leave the district during the current school year. These are not to be used to report 1998-1999 leavers in the 1999-2000 PEIMS Submission 1 due to TEA in December 1999. These codes are simply being provided so that districts will be able to record information correctly now for reporting 1999-2000 leavers in 2000-2001.
