TO THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESSED:

SUBJECT: Emergency Immigrant Education Program (EIEP) Biennial Report for 1998-99 for Projects Funded under SAS-268R99

The materials in the enclosed package are for your use in preparing and submitting the Emergency Immigrant Education Program (EIEP) Biennial Report for the 1998-99 school year. The LEA portion of the report consists of two parts: Part A is the Student National Origin Report Form, Part B is the Local Education Agency (LEA) Expenditure Report Form. The original report must be signed and returned to the Division of Migrant Education by November 15, 1999.

The Texas Education Agency is required to submit to the U.S. Department of Education a Biennial Report for the Emergency Immigrant Education Program (EIEP) regarding LEA expenditures and the national origin of students served by the program funds.

Please note that in the past we have collected this EIEP data every two years. However, since the data is available at the local level on a yearly basis, we believe the Agency can best serve the district, and immigrant children by aligning itself with current data collecting practices. The Agency will, therefore, gather timely data on an annual basis, but will continue to comply with federal biennial reporting requirements.

For assistance with completing the reports or the SAS-A268-00, please contact the Division of Migrant Education at (512) 463-9067.

Thank you for your invaluable support and assistance in providing quality education for our immigrant children.

Sincerely,
Carol Francois
Associate Commissioner for the Education of Special Populations
