TO THE ADMINISTRATOR ADDRESSED

SUBJECT: TEXAS READING ACADEMIES (TRA) ROUND 1 YEAR 2

The Texas Reading Academies Round 1 Year 2 Third Quarter Activity/Progress Report Forms are enclosed. Please note that there are seven separate forms (Form A through Form G). On Form A information regarding project demographics is requested. On Forms B-F, information regarding program components for the following specific areas is requested:

  • Form B - the implementation of scientific, research-based reading programs;
  • Form C - the purchase of instructional or diagnostic reading materials; the purchase of reading materials for libraries; and the hiring of instructional or other project staff;
  • Form D - the professional development of educators;
  • Form E - the diagnostic assessment of student reading skills and comprehension;
  • Form F - the plan for parental involvement in the program; and
  • Form G - additional comments (Optional).

On Forms B-F, you will notice four different sections:

  • 1 - Scheduled activities related to XYZ program component;
  • 2 - Completed activities related to XYZ program component;
  • 3 - Barriers to completing scheduled activities related to XYZ program component; and
  • 4 - Methods developed and/or modifications made in order to achieve success in completing activities related to XYZ program component. Please refer to section #1 on forms B-F when responding to section #4 on forms B-F.

Your preference will dictate the formatting within each section of the forms. You may choose to provide the information in strict narrative form, in outline form, or in chart form. Please ensure that it is clear, concise, and bears some relationship to the original proposal for ease of comparison. The space provided is recommended, however if you require more space, photocopy the forms and add pages as necessary. If you have technology that will allow you to do so, feel free to submit the forms by FAX or e-mail. Keep in mind, however, that the format and the order of the forms must remain intact.

Form G is for additional comments. This is the only optional form, you may use this
area (add pages if necessary) to elaborate on your projects. Examples of information you may provide here include unexpected dividends resulting from project activities; anecdotal information regarding the implementation of the project and/or unique methods for coordinating funds from other sources.

The reporting period for the third quarter is March 1, 2000, through May 31, 2000. The due date listed in the application (SAS A300-00) for this document is June 15, 2000.
