Re: State Board of Education Heroes for Children Award

The State Board of Education is now accepting applications for its 2001 Heroes for Children Award. The award recognizes public school volunteers who have been strong advocates for Texas schoolchildren.

Nominations of individuals for the award are accepted from both individuals and organizations. Educational employees, elected officials and groups or organizations are ineligible to receive the award.

An application for the award is attached. Please duplicate the application as necessary and distribute it to appropriate individuals in your school district or organization. The application form is also available on the Texas Education Agency Web site at www.tea.state.tx.us/awards.

The State Board of Education will select 15 Heroes for Children Award honorees, one from each Board district, from the applications submitted. The Heroes are scheduled to be honored at the Board's May and and September 2001 meetings.

Completed applications should be sent to the Texas Education Agency's Communications Office, 1701 North Congress Avenue, Room 2-180, Austin, TX 78701-1494. Applications also may be sent by fax to the Communications Office at (512) 463-5947 or e-mailed to dculbert@tea.tetn.net. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001.
