February 29, 2000 TO THE SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER ADDRESSED: SUBJECT: Social Worker Proclamation On February 24, 2000, Governor George W. Bush proclaimed March 2000 as Social Worker Month. I want to join Governor George W. Bush by expressing my appreciation for the services provided by school social workers in Texas school districts. Today, Texas children face many social and personal problems that threaten their ability to do well in school and inhibit their progress toward becoming productive citizens. School Social Workers are the link between home, school and community. As members of the educational teams comprised of teachers, administrators, pupil services staff and parents, school social workers promote and support students' academic and social success by eliminating barriers that impede learning. School Social Workers are a great asset in keeping our Texas students and parents engaging in the educational process. I congratulate each of you during this celebration. Enclosed you will find a copy of the proclamation signed by Governor George W. Bush and posters for your campuses.
