SUBJECT: 2000 Administrators' Midwinter Conference on Education

The Administrators' Midwinter Conference on Education will be held January 24-26, 2000, at the Austin Convention Center, Austin, Texas. The conference will officially begin Monday, January 24, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. with the opening general session. However, there will be sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday for participants who choose to arrive early. The conference will conclude on Wednesday, January 26. The theme of this year's conference is "Bridging the Centuries: The Texas Legacy of Excellence Continues."

The conference will include three general sessions and a discussion of the outcomes of the 76th Legislature. Concurrent sessions will be presented by districts/campuses that are implementing programs/practices that support the conference theme and the needs of educators. Topics that will be presented are curriculum and instruction, literacy, assessment, staff development, technology, human resources, community relations, communications, planning, and business and finance issues.

In addition to the regular conference schedule, A Closer Look will take place in Ballroom A on Tuesday, January 25. At this time, Agency staff will conduct facilitated roundtable discussions and provide participants with individual assistance on specific topics. Lecture demonstrations will be conducted for hands-on investigation into the use of technology and a computer lab will provide participants access to the Internet.

Brochures containing the schedule of activities, program topics, and conference highlights will be mailed to your district in November. Conference programs will be available at the Austin Convention Center on January 24, 2000.
