TO THE EDUCATION SERVICE CENTER ADDRESSED:

The Student Assessment Division conducts an annual training session for education service center personnel regarding the administration procedures for the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) program and the end-of-course examinations. We greatly appreciate your service center's assistance each year in preparing school district personnel for the state student assessment program. As in the past, we invite staff from your service center to attend our training session to prepare them for training the district coordinators in your region.

The training will be held in Austin on January 11, 2000, at the Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel located at 303 West 15th Street from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and should be attended by the person on your staff who serves as the testing coordinator. This training will address TAAS and end-of-course testing procedures as well as the spring 2000 benchmark administration for the reading proficiency tests in English (RPTE) and the field testing for the alternative assessment system. We also plan to have an informal training session for new testing coordinators on January 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Texas Education Agency, 1701 North Congress Avenue, in room 3-102. This session will allow us to provide more detailed training to new testing coordinators. Visitor parking for the January 10 training session is available in the visitors' parking garage, located at the southeast corner of 13th and San Jacinto Streets.

Please contact the Student Assessment Division at (512) 463-9536 to let us know who will attend the January 11 training session. If a member of your staff will attend the training session on January 10, please provide us with that person's name as well.

Sincerely,
Keith L. Cruse, Senior Director
Student Assessment Division
