To The Administrator Addressed:

Subject: Project Share

The Texas Education Agency (TEA), in collaboration with Epsilen LLC, and The New York Times Company, is pleased to announce Project Share, a new initiative to expand the development and delivery of high quality professional development in an interactive and engaging eLearning environment and provide access to online resources, online course content, academic networking, and professional learning communities.

Project Share will be introduced in two phases. Phase I will provide online delivery and ongoing support for existing and new professional development resources for teachers across the state. Phase I professional development will focus on the English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), and the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS). In addition, Project Share will build professional learning communities where educators can collaborate, share, and tailor professional development to meet individual needs.

Phase I will also include planning for several pilot projects to provide opportunities for extensive interactions among teachers and students, ePortfolio construction for selected students who wish to showcase academic and extracurricular achievements, and new forms of evaluation through online student assessments. Applications for participation in these pilot projects will be available in spring 2010.

Phase II, scheduled to begin in August 2010, will include an ePortfolio pilot to explore the development of student portfolios to highlight student work. Teachers will gain experience in how to work with students as they develop ePortfolios and how to evaluate student work using methods other than traditional pencil and paper assessments.

A series of webinars, presentations, and training opportunities will be provided to acquaint educators and other stakeholders with the various components of Project Share and provide information on the enrollment process. For additional information, send questions to projectshare@tea.state.tx.us or contact Kerry Ballast, Director of Special Projects, at kerry.ballast@tea.state.tx.us or (512) 463-9581.

Sincerely,

Robert Scott
