SUBJECT: TEA Dropout Recovery Promising Practices and Resources Forum

The Texas Education Agency (TEA), through its contractor, EGS Research & Consulting, is in the process of developing a Dropout Recovery Resource Manual to assist districts and charter schools develop, enhance and implement dropout recovery strategies or programs. The Manual will be available to schools, school districts, and other entities that provide services to students at-risk of dropping out of school, or to students that have already dropped out of school.
As an integral part of the Manual development process, the TEA is conducting two statewide Dropout Recovery Promising Practices and Resources Forums on November 3, 2008 and on November 5, 2008.
Forum locations, dates, and times:
The November 3, 2008 forum will take place at Region XI Education Service Center in Fort Worth. The forum will be from 12:30 to 4:30 in Conference Rooms A116 and A119. Region XI Education Service Center is located at 3001 North Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76106; (817) 740-3600.
The November 5, 2008 forum will take place at Region IV Education Service Center in Houston. The forum will be from 12:30 to 4:30 in Rooms 100D&E. Region IV Education Service Center is located at 7145 West Tidwell, Houston, TX 77092-2096; (713) 462-7708.
Who should attend:
The forums are for superintendents, district and campus administrators in charge of dropout reduction, and district and school dropout reduction specialists.
Content and registration information:
The forums will give you the opportunity to:
• Learn about dropout recovery promising practices and strategies in Texas, other states, and nationally;
• Share information about your dropout recovery strategies and programs;
•
Learn about TEA’s Dropout Recovery Resource Manual;
•
Review and provide feedback on sections of the TEA Dropout Recovery Resource Manual;
•
Identify and discuss your needs for assistance with dropout recovery.
Registration is required! No registration fee.
