Important Information About
1999 AEIS REPORTS

December 1, 1999

TO THE SUPERINTENDENT ADDRESSED:

Recently my office mailed the 1998-99 Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) report for your district and schools to you. After mailing the reports, two reporting issues came to our attention that we need to share with you.

District Longitudinal Dropout Rate: The rate for one group, Economically Disadvantaged students, was not calculated correctly. This represents one number on the district AEIS report only:

A list is enclosed showing the rate reported, and the correct rate, for all districts in the state. The list is in alphabetical order by district name. District AEIS reports posted to the Division of Performance Reporting's website this week will show the corrected value.

Percent Completing Recommended High School Program: Masking for this indicator was not calculated correctly. Our masking rules require that we print an asterisk (*) if there are fewer than five students in a given category. Instead, on the district and campus AEIS report, values were reported regardless of the number of graduates reported for a given group. Since very few graduates statewide have completed the Recommended High School Program at this time, this means that the vast majority of reports will show 0.0%, rather than an asterisk (*). District and campus AEIS reports posted to the Division of Performance Reporting's website this week will show the masked values, as applicable.

The AEIS reports are available on the agency's website at the following address:

http://www.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport

If you have questions about these reporting issues, please contact the Division of Performance Reporting at (512) 463-9704.

Sincerely,

Criss Cloudt, Associate Commissioner
for Policy Planning and Research
