To the Administrator Addressed:

Subject: Increased Enrollment Due To Katrina Evacuees

A number of school districts are expected to enroll students who were evacuees of Hurricane Katrina last fall. School districts that enroll 50 or more students who were evacuees may report this increased enrollment to the State Funding Division for purposes of increasing their current year payments. Districts may report only the increased enrollment that is due to students who were evacuees. While we recognize that districts may experience enrollment growth that is not attributable to hurricane evacuees, those additional students should not be reported using this form. We will receive information about those students during the regular submission of data to the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS).

A form has been posted on the TEA School Finance Website that can be used by school districts and charter schools that enroll 50 or more students who are evacuees of Hurricane Katrina to report this increase in enrollment. The form must be completed, including the date and signature of the superintendent of the district or CEO of the charter school, in order to be processed. Instructions for submitting this information are included on the form. Forms will be processed at the end of each calendar month, and increases to funding will be reflected on the next regularly scheduled payment from the Foundation School Program.

The form is posted on the TEA School Finance Website at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/school.finance/index.html. If you have questions about the form or related matters, please contact the State Funding Division at (512) 463-9238.

Sincerely,

Lisa Dawn-Fisher, Director
School Finance
