2009–2010 Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) Summer Attendance

To the Administrator Addressed:

This letter provides information on the OFSDP and reporting of OFSDP summer attendance.

The OFSDP is a program that your district may offer to provide flexible hours and days of attendance for certain eligible students, including students in any grade who, as a result of attendance requirements under the Texas Education Code, §25.092, will be denied credit for one or more classes in which they have been enrolled. The OFSDP allows students to make up days absent, though the students cannot exceed 180 days total for the school year.

Some districts approved to offer OFSDPs choose to provide OFSDP credit recovery classes in the summer. If your district plans to offer summer credit recovery classes, it must still comply with Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) Data Standards requirements to submit attendance data by required reporting dates. If your district will provide credit recovery classes in the summer of the 2009–2010 school year, the attendance information must be submitted no later than August 15 and must be submitted via secure email or another secure transmittal method using the manual attendance registers. You can find an example attendance register on the TEA website at http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/school.finance/ofsdp/index.html. Beginning with the 2010–2011 school year, the PEIMS will be able to collect OFSDP attendance data submitted as 500 records in the fourth collection.

If you have questions about the program, please contact Kim Wall by telephone at
(512) 463-4809 or by email at kim.wall@tea.state.tx.us.

Sincerely,

Helen Daniels
